History of the William L  Ball Chapel

The Chapel at Fernwood was constructed in 1962 as the first sanctuary for Fernwood Baptist Church. Once the congregation moved to their new sanctuary, the chapel sat empty for many years. An extensive renovation, completed in 2013 brought new life to our beautiful chapel. No detail was left unattended to and new additions included a new Allen Organ and compatible sound system.

As you enter the vaulted foyer with its tiled floors, you can sense the sereneness of this place of worship. Upon entering the Chapel, you grasp the beauty of this jewel – a traditional style with a center aisle flanked with pews seating 220 – 250.

Integral to the Chapel are the six stained glass windows, fabricated in the classic style by The Willet Stained Glass Studios of Philadelphia. These windows are made of hand blown pot metal glasses which are heavily barred and leaded. All painted portions were fused so they would not fade and would be able to last for hundreds of years. Each window consists of two subject medallions depicting a Biblical episode of the life and ministry of Christ – each medallion beautifully illustrates one of the great “I Am” aspects of that ministry. Look closely at each window to see the high level of artistry and fabrication for which the late Mr. Willet was known.

Looking toward the future, our congregation hopes to open our chapel doors to our community and provide a space for new memories and experiences
